Dutch darts sensation Michael van Gerwen claimed his 13th PDC European Tour title and his fifth in 2016 after an exciting 6-5 victory against Mensur Suljovic in the final of the European Darts Trophy in Mulheim on Sunday.

Having seen off Keegan Brown, Simon Whitlock, Jelle Klaasen and Kim Huybrechts, the world number one found
himself 5-4 down in the final against an in-form Suljovic, who had clinched his first PDC title a week ago in Riesa.

But van Gerwen was not to be denied glory as he produced a sprint finish with 12 and 11 dart legs to seal another victory.

His 6-2 quarter-final victory against Klaasen proved to be the performance of the weekend as he stormed past his Dutch compatriot with an average of over 115.

van Gerwen, who has won the last two European Tour events he has competed in, will look to make it a hat-trick this weekend in Sindelfingen.

van Gerwen’s ZWA stablemates Vincent van der Voort and Cristo Reyes both also appeared in the tournament.
