CRISTO REYES enjoyed a dream debut at the BetVictor World Matchplay, while Michael van Gerwen also breezed through to round two in Blackpool.

Reyes produced one of the performances of the first round to defeat 14th seed Robert Thornton 10-3 at the Winter Gardens on Sunday.

The Spanish star averaged over 101 to set up a last 16 clash with world number three Peter Wright, which takes place on Tuesday.

Tournament favourite and defending champion Van Gerwen won the first seven legs of his 10-4 win over Stephen Bunting.

The Dutch ace will face Simon Whitlock on Wednesday for a place in the quarter-finals.
